Format of the class
At the start of the class, we will take time to allow our mind and body to settle and to prepare ourselves for the yoga practice.
We will do some warm up exercises before we work on the asanas (postures). Each session will have a particular theme and we will be working asanas that compliment this.
The asanas help to release tension, improve flexibility and strengthen the whole body system – mentally and physically.
The last 20 minutes of the class will be for relaxation. This helps the mind and body to unwind and let go of any stress being held internally, giving a sense of well being and renewed energy. We sometimes listen to the sound created by a singing bowl or gong to deepen our relaxation. We also practice chanting.
Please wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely. During the relaxation session your temperature may lower slightly, so please make sure you have clothing that will keep you warm – you can bring a blanket if you want.
You will also need a mat to work on or something that will not slip on a wooden floor.

Yoga is not ...
A competition – our bodies are all different – some asanas will be easier for others – find your own level and work with your breath to deepen and develop your strength.
A quick fix – it takes time for us to re learn how to allow the mind to focus on one thing at a time rather than rush around doing several things at once!
A religion or cult – the aim of yogic practice is to bring the mind, body and breath into harmony and work as one.
